Plan A Visit

Please contact office in regards to booking an appointment starting May 22

From the May long weekend to the September long weekend, SBOIC’s focus is on in-house tours of our facility. Emphasis is on learning about the prairie ecosystem, and the conservation of species and habitat. Bring a whole class or bring your family. Our interpretive staff passes along information about the Burrowing Owls, prairie habitat, as well as new research and conservation efforts being made by biologists and other wildlife organizations.

We can accommodate large or small groups. Guided tours are available 5 days a week from 10 am to 5:00 pm.

Such a visit to the Centre includes:

  • the opportunity to view SBOIC’s captive owls in their outdoor enclosures;
  • the chance to see wild hawks, coyotes, jackrabbits, gophers, and other prairie wildlife in the adjacent field;
  • the opportunity to learn more about native prairie plants in the Evergreen Native Prairie Garden;
  • and perhaps the chance to meet one of our imprinted owls!

Spring/Summer Hours Open Thursdays to Mondays Starting
Victoria Day Weekend (May) until Labour Day Weekend (September)
10am – 5pm

The Saskatchewan Burrowing Owl Interpretive Centre (SBOIC) is taking steps to protect our flock against Avian Influenza.

In consultation with our veterinarian team, SBOIC has decided to keep our owls housed in their private enclosures. This means visitors to the Centre will not be able to view the owls at this time. We have also temporarily suspended our traveling outreach program to further protect our education ambassadors.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) is transmitted by migratory birds and has recently been confirmed in both wild birds and domestic poultry flocks in Canada. SBOIC will continue to monitor the situation and consult with our veterinary team regarding the health and safety of our owls.

The grounds, indoor display area and gift store will remain open to public visits. We appreciate your help keeping our owls safe.
