Education Outreach

Owls On Tour is a high-energy hour of environmental education. Depending on the age of the audience, the presentation may include slides, songs, skits and stories revolving around the endangered burrowing owl and their disappearing habitat.

At the end of the presentation, participants have the opportunity to meet a live burrowing owl and engage in a question and answer session.

The Saskatchewan Burrowing Owl Interpretive Centre (SBOIC) is taking steps to protect our flock against Avian Influenza.

In consultation with our veterinarian team, SBOIC has decided to keep our owls housed in their private enclosures. This means visitors to the Centre will not be able to view the owls at this time. We have also temporarily suspended our traveling outreach program to further protect our education ambassadors.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) is transmitted by migratory birds and has recently been confirmed in both wild birds and domestic poultry flocks in Canada. SBOIC will continue to monitor the situation and consult with our veterinary team regarding the health and safety of our owls.

The grounds, indoor display area and gift store will remain open to public visits. We appreciate your help keeping our owls safe.
